What's happening A41 Noth to Bicester?
Coming from Aylesbury this evening (Thurs 3-7-08) trying to get to Bicester Village before 7pm close. Took 45 mins to do 2 miles - gave up - and still nowhere near Bicester. The information on this site says a few mins only delay... Wrong!
Does anyone know if this is usually the case - or was tonight a one-off? I want to shop! (But instead had a 2 hour wasted trip - which probably cost loads in petrol...)

Re: What's happening A41 Noth to Bicester?
Michael,
Thank you for your message. We go to great lengths to ensure that the quality of the traffic information that we report is of the highest standard. There are a number of strict rules that we follow to prevent false alarms being generated on A-roads caused by delivery vehicles, buses, etc continually stopping and starting.
Last night we were aware of a drop in vehicle speeds but there were an insufficient number of vehicles in the queuing section to cause a severe message to be broadcasted.
We hope this clarifies the issue for you.
Many thanks
Mary

Love the new traffic cameras
Yours is a much better implementation than the BBC JamCams - they were their first but their script seems to load every camera in the country(taking ages and timing out) rather than letting you select a road. Well done.
As you can never tell what direction the HA have left their camera it is difficult to tell which side of the carriageway has the jam - unless it's sunny when you can do some boy scouts work on direction of shadows and where the sun would be etc..

signs
why are the signs left on saying animals debris or people on road all this does is cause a slowing of traffic for no reason,this happens everyday who controls the signs because they cause more slow traffic than some accidents.can you ask them to turn signs off when there is no hazard this would make my daily trip less stressful regards neil.

Incident on 21 June (Yesterday) between Clevedon and Weston-Super-Mare
Hi there, I'm not sure whether I can ask for witnesses of incidents here.
If you were travelling between Clevedon (J20) to Weston-Super-Mare (J21) yesterday between the hours of 5pm and 5:45 pm, and saw an incident as follows, please contact me at rep@irit.co.uk.
Yesterday between the hours of 5pm and 5:45pm, we (Me, My father, my sister, and father's partner) were harrased by either alcohol or drug using people. 2 Males (1 black 1 white). Then repeatedly tried maneuvering around us dangerously, braking, and one point actually stopping in the middle lane on the motorway, trying to get us to pull over to the hard shoulder, to settle this with physical solutions. My father tried dodging every dangerous attempt to do so, all the way down to the slip road to Weston-Super-Mare (J21). At which point, half way down the slip road they stopped in front of us completely, nearly making a collision and haulting the traffic onto the Weston-Super-Mare turn-off. The black man got out, and Incident

more roadworks!
Sorry but I was shocked when I saw that there are more roadworks more roadworks!ing on the 23rd of June. Anybody knows for how long and which area will be affected? Also, anybody knows who plans the schedule of these works? First 6-7 months of roadwords, followed by more than a week devoted to "cut the grass" and now more road words again! Couldn't they cut the grass while doing the works, so they don't have to disrupt the traffic twice? Just a bit fed up of traffic jams on the A55.
Thank you

Go Slow
On my way to work shortly, not looking forward to the Go Slow heading for Salford Quays.
I am a biker and whilst I can't see the point in annoying people trying to get to work this morning, at least they are doing something instead of just moaning about it!
Just read on www.SalfordQuays.org that they are planning to take over local radio stations as well!

Hi
I have not done this route yet: traveling from borough to parsons green, going over the vauxhall bridge. I was hoping someone could tell me about the traffic at 7.30 am and then on the way home at about 5.30?
Please tell me, no one is on the roads and they are serenely relaxing to be on!!

why is it that when you inadvertently find your self in the wrong lane, (which I might add is very easy around the Guildford city ring road system) just as you get into guildford,that nobody lets you in? camera function
super idea to be able to see road situations via static cameras WHEN THEY WORK or when they are not pointing skywards, downwards, or any other position but along the road you want to see!
There are far too many of them not functioning: is is this something that the Highways Agency overseers/police also have to put up with?
My journey today is from Maidstone to Stansted so I need to know exactly the state of play along the M20 Westbound and the dreaded M25 (a/c) and M11 corridor.
Otherwise, this is a really useful tool!

Re: camera function
Thank you for your message. We're glad you like the CCTV - we now have a new application on facebook called keepmoving jamcams that incorporates this functionality.
The highways agency do kindly allow us to display pictures from their cameras. Therefore the number of cameras turned off at any one time is beyond our control. Cameras are unavailable due to various reasons including roadworks, accidents etc. Having said this we hope you agree that the CCTV adds valuable functionality to keepmoving.
Best wishes

Road down to 1 lane both ways Manchester side of the Junction
I travel the oposite way to this each morning however this morning and on Friday the junction has been busy due to it being reduced down to one lane in each direct, traffic was queuing up the slip road on Junction 20 of the M60 as well as all the way back to Middleton along Manchester New Road, I have not seen it but I antisipate the evening journey would be the same northbound along Rochdale road as well as affecting Victoria Avenue A6109. I would estimate the worst of the delays could be up to 30 mins extra.

Lane Closure? I don't see no lane closure!
There is no lane closure due to roadworks neither northbound or southbound on the A556 between the M56 and Bucklow Hill.
Where DO you get your information from? And do you bother checking it?
On the other hand the road was completely clear so everybody has avoided this phantom roadworks.

Re: Lane Closure? I don't see no lane closure!
Thank you for your comment. We value feedback very highly indeed.
Moving onto your questions. Keepmoving collects it's journalistic traffic information via a broad range of sources including the Police and Highways Agency control centers; Local authorities; CCTV centers; Jamliners (direct calls from the general public) as well as a range of other sources.
Regarding checking the information: We carry out our own rigorous checking of data from our various sources, however from time to time inaccurate reports can slip through the net.
May we take this opportunity to apologise for any inconvenience this issue caused.

Why the delays?
Why is this now queuing back every night from about 4pm?
Have they changed the delay on the lights on the roundabout or is there a diversion creating more traffic volume?

Re: Why the delays?
They have reduced the speed limit down from 60 to 40 between the railway viaduct at Clifton Road and the A557 around the M56 junction in recent months, so that combined with the traffic lights at peak hours might be contributing to the delays perhaps?
In other news, I notice there are new CCTV cameras mounted on posts just as you enter/exit the A557 near junction 12. They look very omnious.

Do U get txts?
Does everyone else get what they need with the mobile messaging services from KeepMoving?
I received one alert for my route to work shortly after I registered, so I know my mobile phone number and route to/from work are logged OK. But I've not received a txt message since then, nor does it recognise me when I phone 0845-TRAFFIC and ask for info about my route home.
Is it just me, or does this service simply not work?

Re: Do U get txts?
We we only send a text in the event of more serious delays and incidents and so this is why you do not receive them all that often. Members who set up routes for longer, more congested road stretches are therefore more likely to receive texts.
We acknowledge there has been some confusion about this and we'll clarify the rules for transmission on the site soon.
Out of interest, 928 texts have been sent to keepmoving members today alone.

Juntion 8/9 - Reading (10/11or12)
On Monday evening the M4 had major problems heading into Reading.
I was just going to go: 404 / A4 into town off juntion 8/9 but I followed a courier van (deadline I think) through some country roads and he/she got me to a quite corner of reading within 10min or so from leaving the 404 (not A4)
The rought is quite complex but I am willing to detail the shortcut if anyone is interested.

Re: no comments
Hi,
The CCTV is a great addition to our site, provided courtesy of the Highways Agency, and we hope you find it interesting. Unfortunately there are a number of factors which may result in the cameras being unavailable or switched off. For example, major roadworks may eliminate cameras for a whole stretch, or a serious incident may lead to the cameras being unavailable for a specific location.
Whilst many cameras will be available at times, it is beyond our control so the level of availability will fluctuate.
Thank you for your comment.

Re: Highways Agency
I recently paid a visit to the Regional Control Centre for the Highways Agency.
I was amazed by the amount of work that the guys and girls of the Highway Patrol do.
They are a fantastic service!
The reason they close large sections of the motorway at a time is for there safety, the victim/casualties safety, the brave emergency services personnel and mostly YOUR safety.
If you are unfortunate to have an accident, break down or have a flat tyre you can rely on the Highways Agency to keep you safe.

Re: live cctv
Live video footage? That would be awesome!
In fact, I used to have a Widget on my Mac that streamed live from American cameras. It was hypnotic watching the tiny American cars drive around my Dashboard. No use whatsoever, but fascinating.
At the moment the Highways Agency only offer camera stills. A tiny number of local counties do provide moving footage, like Reading. But it's not widespread in this country.
Should the lovely people at the Highways Agency start offering moving pictures, rest assured we'll pounce on them immediately and offer it out to our users. In fact, we'll ask about it when we meet them next.

Re: traffic heavy as usual
Hi Aviator,
Each number on your telephone represents three or four letters.
Usually:
1 = Nothing
2 = A,B,C
3 = D,E,F
4 = G,H,I
5 = J,K,L
6 = M,N,O
7 = P,Q,R,S
8 = T,U,V
9 = W,X,Y,Z
0 = Nothing
You only need to press the number once to represent the letter, hence T would be 8, R would be 7, etc.
0845 TRAFFIC is merely 0845 8723342 in disguise.
Hope this helps!
Caro :)

CCTV this weekend
Hi
We apologise for the lack of cameras over the weekend which was due to a technical issue beyond our control, as opposed to a deliberate attempt to restrict the images.
Whilst we understand that the cameras can be very useful, we still supply live delay and incident data as well as live audio bulletins, all free of charge, which we believe offers a highly reliable source of traffic information.
That said, we'll keep on our toes to prevent any future issues.
Many thanks for your comments.

Useless TMC info
I was traveling southbound to Stoke on Trent on Saturday (22nd) when the A50/A34 to the A500 was jammed up due to the M6 being shut. This was not shown on my TomTom One but as the incident had only just happened I put it down to the time lag between incident. However, as I travelled back 2 hours later the southbound road was slow moving (less than 5mph) between the A500 and Arclid, which is approximately 6 miles. I checked my TomTom and it showed the M6 problem but nothing on the A34/A50. This leads me to the conclusion that TMC is a load of rubbish. Any explanation why this wasn't being included in the traffic updates.
I have no faith in the system whatsoever and now rely on local radio traffic reports.

Re: weather warning
We had snow on the Easter Sunday as we were driving over to the parents'. It felt like Christmas, especially as we had turkey for lunch, and a bag of presents in the back of the car.

Still Censored
Sunday 23rd and still no camera images ? Yesterday the site administrator said the HA
sometimes "switched off" the cameras
Are they still "switched off" or has the site got problems. If they are switched off has anyone
from Keep Moving been able to make contact with the HA and ask WHY and also WHEN the
images will be restored
We have to challenge these superior beings from the Governments quasi enforcers

Re: Still Censored
I'm not so sure the problems with the camera feeds are down to the HA, as normally (with www.trafficScotland.org anyway) they would replace the feed with a "Currently Unavailable" image due to roadworks/site changes etc or "In Operational Use" image If the camera images are subject to any legal issues for example, the scene of an accident etc.
There aware of the problem so I'm sure they'll have them back up soon enough.
P.S When will the Scottish, Welsh & Irish cameras be included to complete the UK?

Re: Still Censored
Thanks Graeme2812
You are probably right. I do often get the small red x up on the odd window so
perhaps it is a bug.
Appologies to HA if it is.

Waste of time
I joined today as I thought it would be very handy to plan a route and also see the routes I was going to travel so as to avoide things as road works.
I have been on every area and nearly every camera in every area tonight and they are all blank. What I thought would be an excellent site is a waste of time. I can get a route planner anywhere, but to see the roads before you leave would have been a big advantage to stop me adding to the congestion.
I appreciate the Highways operate the cameras, but come on it needs Keep Moving to take them to task on this, the whole thing comes out of the taxpayers money, we want to avoide giving them further congestion, so play the game and turn the flaming cameras on. I dont know why they say that in bad weather they turn them off, that is just the time you need to see the damn thing.
I hate to say this but if this is what it is normally like then this will prob be my last visit

Cameras
How come other sites e.g. BBC are still showing working camera pictures when their feeds come from the same source as Keep Moving's? I suspect other issues are the cause.
